About volcanic alert levels

Volcanic alert levels range from Level 1 to 5 and define the extent of the hazard in case of eruption, disaster prevention response, etc.
For each level, the local town and weather bureau have established the steps that residents, tourists and hikers around the volcano must take to prevent disaster.

  • LEVEL 5
    Evacuate
    Volcanic alert Must evacuate from hazardous residential area
  • LEVEL 4
    Evacuate of the elderly, etc
    Volcanic alert Prepare to evacuate from alert areas. Have disabled people evacuate
  • LEVEL 3
    No entry to mountain
    Near-crater Warning Prohibition on entry to mountain, restricted entry to hazardous areas on mountain, etc.
  • LEVEL 2
    Entry to area near vent prohibited

CAUTION

  • About trail restrictions

    Even though it may fall outside the no-go area depending on the Mt. Shinmoe volcanic alert level, the trail to the summit remains closed.
    Do not enter restricted areas under any circumstances.

  • The wind direction

    The plume from the volcano travels downwind, and can include volcanic rocks and ash.
